Regione Lombardia Civil Protection is in charge of the alerting system. The Regional Functional Centre (CFMR) monitors and forecasts hazards in real time, helping local authorities to protect people and infrastructure. The system uses color-coded warnings, defined areas, and identifies specific actions to be taken to reduce damages.

The regional alert system uses four color-coded levels (from green to red), showing increasing risk based on forecasts and impacts on populated areas.

Alert zones are areas where natural events are expected to have similar impacts due to environment or human presence.

The actions to be taken locally follow three phases: attention, pre-alarm, and alarm. The Regional Functional Centrein the alert document sets the minimum initial operational phase, based on ground effects on a specified zone. For yellow and orange alerts, attention is required. For red alerts, pre-alarm must be activated. The Mayor may add further measures according to the Municipal Civil Protection Plan.
